Excellence in Christian Education
Heights Christian Junior High School was born out
of a desire to provide excellence in education combined with Christian values.
Our dedicated faculty and staff is committed to ministering to the needs of
the students and families, and is excited about having an impact in the lives
of young people. Our program is designed to give our junior high students a
variety of core and elective classes. Our focus is to prepare each student for
the upcoming demands of high school while providing an atmosphere that
ministers to the needs of this very unique age group. Heights Christian Junior
High prepares students with a balanced emphasis on Biblical Studies,
academics, extracurricular activities, athletics and the arts. It is the staff’s
desire for each student to be critical thinkers in today’s society, and to
learn in a caring and compassionate atmosphere.
About our School
Expected School-wide Learning Results (ESLR's)
The Academic Program
Core Classes
HCJH has designed its Academic
Program so that every student will take five core classes each morning before
lunch. The students will rotate through a morning schedule of Bible, History,
English, Math and Science. Math classes are arranged according to individual
student ability-level. Each student also rotates through an afternoon schedule
of required classes such as Computers, Foreign Language, Physical Education,
Music Appreciation and Integrity 101. Scripture is integrated into all classes
at HCJH.
Electives
A great variety of elective
classes are being offered for our students. Each student will have the
opportunity to take eight different electives per year as part of their Junior
High experience. Samples of elective classes would be: Spanish, Candy Making,
Soccer, Basketball, Jazz Band, Art, Computers, Student Council, Cheer,
Volleyball, Drama, Chess, Handbells, First Aid and Journalism.
8th Grade Washington DC Trip
Undoubtedly, one of
the most exciting aspects of HCJH’s curriculum is the twelve-day Washington
DC Trip
for eighth graders each March. A well-organized trip with many
parent-chaperones and staff gives each eighth grader a chance to experience
History at its roots! We start in Jamestown, Virginia and work our way up the
east coast through Washington DC and finish in New York. No student or parent
comes home the same after seeing our rich Christian Heritage! Patriotism is
still alive and well at HCJH!
SOAR Program
In order to promote academic
excellence at our school, HCJH runs a very exciting program called “SOAR”
(which stands for Seeking Opportunities, Achieving Results). Academic Pep
Rallies prove to be some of the most exciting events during the year. Students
earn “credit cards” based upon their efforts during each quarter and can
use these cards throughout each quarter for incentives on and off campus.
There are four different levels of success so that any student can have the
opportunity to earn a SOAR Card!
Athletics
The Hawk Athletic Program gives
the students an opportunity to play as members of teams which compete against both public and private schools. Among the sports offered are:
Flag Football, Volleyball, Cross Country, Basketball, Baseball, Softball,
Cheerleading and Track. Our outstanding coaching staff stresses Christ-like
attitudes as well as learning the skills to compete at a high level of play.
HCJH is number 1!
Music
HCJH offers a wide variety of
musical experiences. Students can participate in Band, Choir, Performance
Choir, Jazz Band and Handbells. With opportunities to travel and perform, our
music students gain skill and poise and are ready for the next level. As is
true in all areas of our school, our Music Department is focused on honoring
Jesus Christ with each and every performance.
Chapel
Worship
Chapel is an important part of campus life at HCJH. Students will attend
Chapel once a week and will be challenged by a variety of speakers and
programs. Chapel is another important way that God’s Word can be shared and
implemented in the student’s every day life.
Daycare
Supervised
care is offered each morning from 6:45 am until school starts, and after
school from 3:00 pm until 6:00 pm.
Food Service
Each
student has the opportunity to purchase meals each day at school. We have a
“state of the art” kitchen in which a catering company cooks meals right
on campus. Meals are offered in a “pre-ordered plan” or can be purchased
“ala carte”. The catering company is open for business before school, at
break and at lunch.
Our Theme for this Year: "TEAM - Works"
"Two are better than one..." Ecclesiastes 4:9-10
Mission and Purpose:
“Our mission
is to educate students to know Christ personally, excel academically, think
biblically, and positively impact their community for Christ.”
"That
from childhood you have known the sacred writings which are able to give you
the wisdom that leads to salvation through faith which is in Christ
Jesus." 2 Timothy 3:15
STUDENT SPIRITUAL LIFE AND
CONDUCT
One of the unique purposes of Heights Christian
Junior High School is to prepare Christian young people for effective service
for Christ in whatever career they choose. It is our desire to see our
students experience a vital, personal relationship with God through faith in
Jesus Christ. We ask our students to measure their lives by Scriptural
standards of conduct. Spiritual growth is never the result of superimposed
rules, and therefore HCJH standards of conduct are not designed merely to
produce a pattern of outward conformity. HCJH desires that students
demonstrate by their conduct an inward acceptance of Christ and a spirit of
subjection to His Lordship. It is hoped that all students will be led by the
Holy Spirit to live above the letter of the rules and standards. By applying
for admission to HCJH, each family indicates a desire to become a sincere,
cooperative member of the HCJH family. It is our desire for every student to
live by the principles of 1 Timothy 4:12 which states, “Let no one look
down on your youthfulness, but rather in speech, conduct, love, faith and
purity, show yourself an example of those who believe.”
HCJH STAFF
To support the
commitment of the school, HCJH has assembled a dedicated, highly qualified
faculty. Our teachers bring to the classroom a rich blend of competence and
inspiration, matched with a professional and caring attitude.
